Browser-based IDE with an AI agent; no local install, works on Chromebooks and locked-down lab machines.
What it is good at
Zero-install browser execution is the biggest practical advantage for colleges with locked lab images or students on loaner Chromebooks. Multiplayer editing supports genuine pair programming and live instructor intervention in a student's actual session. Removes the environment-setup failure that causes a lot of CS1 attrition.
Use it for
A first-week lab where code runs on day one with no Python installation, for students on school-issued Chromebooks. Live pair-debugging where the instructor joins a struggling student's session during office hours. Having students deploy a small Flask app to a public URL and critique each other's endpoints.
Where it falls short
Replit Teams for Education was discontinued — there is no longer a first-party gradebook or assignment workflow, so you are back to collecting links. Free Mode limits are low enough that an active class hits them mid-semester. The agent will scaffold a whole working app from one prompt, which is the opposite of what a CS1 assignment measures; in-class or oral defense of code becomes close to mandatory.

Used in
Computer Science: Removes the install barrier entirely — but the education tier no longer exists.
Horticulture: Where a small sensing or control project gets built and tested on a bench — greenhouse monitoring and the like — without proprietary hardware or a staff engineer.
